"76" base:  This black/white base began in 1976 and was renewed in 1977 and 1978 with stickers placed over the debossed and unpainted "76" in the top right corner, which was inside the state outline.  (1978 was renewed with a "79" sticker.)  The "76" base plate number format was the county code at left, followed by a "D" (for dealer), then the dealership number in that county.  After a dot separator, the number plate for that dealership.

 

 

"79" base:  This green/white base began in 1979 and was renewed in 1980 with a sticker covering the lightly debossed and unpainted "79" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline.  There are two kinds of 1980 stickers: "80" and "12-31-80".  The "79" base had "DEALER" embossed at the top and a plate number format of the county code at left, followed by the dealership number in that county, then the number plate for that dealership, each number code separated by a centered dot.

 

 

"81" base:  This black/white base began in 1981 and was renewed in 1982 and 1983 with a stickers placed over the lightly debossed and unpainted "81" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline.  The plate had "DEALER" embossed at the top and a plate number format of the county code at left, followed by the dealership number in that county, then the number plate for that dealership, each number code separated by a centered dot.

"84" base:  The blue/white "84" base was only used for one year.  The plate had a lightly debossed and unpainted "84" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline.  This plate began a new plate number format of "00D00-00" that is in use to the present.  The plate number was the county code, followed by a "D" for "dealer", and the dealership number in that county.  After the dealer number, a centered dot separated it from the number of the plate for that dealer.  For example, for dealer #1 in county #1, all their plates began with "1D1-".  After the dot separator, the dealer's plates were number consecutively from #1 up.  Also from this base to the present, vehicles that were covered by the dealership's insurance used plates with a "DEALER" sticker placed at the top of the plate.  Those not covered did not have the sticker and the top was left blank.

 

 

"85" base:  The black/aluminum "85" base was only used for one year.  The plate had an embossed "85" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline.  This base continued the plate number format of "00D00-00" that is in use to the present.  The plate number was the county code, followed by a "D" for "dealer", and the dealership number in that county.  After the dealer number, a centered dot separated it from the number of the plate for that dealer.  For example, for dealer #1 in county #1, all their plates began with "1D1-".  After the dot separator, the dealer's plates were number consecutively from #1 up.  Vehicles that were covered by the dealership's insurance used plates with a "DEALER" sticker placed at the top of the plate.  Those not covered did not have the sticker and the top was left blank.

 

 

"86" base:  This aluminum/black, entirely debossed, base had "86" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline.  A renewal sticker for 1987 was placed over the "86".  The plate number format was "00D00-00".  The plate number was the county code, followed by a "D" for "dealer", and the dealership number in that county.  After the dealer number, a centered dot separated it from the number of the plate for that dealer.  For example, for dealer #1 in county #1, all their plates began with "1D1-".  After the dot separator, the dealer's plates were number consecutively from #1 up.  Vehicles that were covered by the dealership's insurance used plates with a "DEALER" sticker placed at the top of the plate.  Those not covered did not have the sticker and the top was left blank.

"01" base:  This purple/white base had an embossed "01" in the bottom right corner inside the state outline and was renewed for 2002 with a sticker.  The plate number format was "00D00-00".  The plate number was the county code, followed by a "D" for "dealer", and the dealership number in that county.  After the dealer number, a centered dot separated it from the number of the plate for that dealer.  For example, for dealer #1 in county #1, all their plates began with "1D1-".  After the dot separator, the dealer's plates were number consecutively from #1 up.  Vehicles that were covered by the dealership's insurance used plates with a "DEALER" sticker placed at the top of the plate.  Those not covered now received a "DEMO" sticker to place at the top of the plate, rather than past issues when the top was left blank.
