Georgia

PASSENGER

"71" blue/white passenger base:  This base began in 1971 and was renewed each year with a single year sticker.  The county of residence appears at the bottom of the plate in the form of a sticker.

"76" red/white passenger base:  This base began in 1976 and was renewed each year with a single year sticker.  The county of residence appears at the bottom of the plate in the form of a sticker.  Later issues of this base had "GEORGIA" screened, rather than embossed.

"83" green/white passenger base:  This base began in 1983 and was renewed each year with a single year sticker.  The county of residence appears at the bottom of the plate in the form of a sticker.

1983 (green/reflective white) Dougherty County vg $5.00 "CKJ 930" (11561)

1990 small peach passenger: This design began with a 1990 expiration, the "90" being screened into the stickerwell.  A single year sticker was used for renewals.  The county of residence appears at the bottom of the plate in the form of a sticker.

1995 small peach "AAA 0000" format: A continuation of the previous design, this format was used to tie over to the next base that began in 1997.  There are no other differences to the 1990 "AAA 000" format.

1997 large peach "...on my mind" passenger  base: This design began in 1997 with a 1998 expiration, the "98" being screened into the bottom right stickerwell.  This plate marked the first time Georgia used staggered registration with Georgia being the last state in the country to do so.  Stickers were used for renewals and the county of residence appears at the bottom of the plate in the form of a sticker.  (Note: two style stickers were used for 2000 expirations.  Early stickers showed "00" similar to stickers before 2000 and later stickers with "2000" were issued and were similar to stickers in subsequent years.)

An interesting story goes with the plate number formats for this design.  A quirk in the law was challenged and was found to be unconstitutional.  As a result, various formats that would ordinarily be used for other plate classes were also used for passenger plates.  The first plate number format used was "000 AAA", but when that format was exhausted, the state went to a "0000 AAA" format.  Other formats found on this base are "0000 AA" and "00000 QA".

2003 (black/reflective white) Barrow County natural vg $3.00 "1597 ADH" (12375)

2004 "www.GEORGIA.gov" BASE:  This design was issued beginning in 2004 (screened "05" in right stickerwell) and initially was intended to begin a complete reissue to all vehicles.  Due to cost restraints, the state decided to scrap the reissue and the previous base was allowed to continue.  Along the top is the state's website address to promote tourism in Georgia and the plate number format was flipped to "AAA 0000".  A new peach logo with the state outline in the center was added as a plate number separator.  Finally, this base continued issuing separate month and year stickers as the previous base did, but in 2006 the stickers were modified.  These stickers have both the month and year on the same sticker, as well as the plate number and the county of issuance.

2007 "GEORGIA.gov" base:  The state decided to modify the design by removing the grey fade coloring, moving the peach logo to the center of the plate (which doesn't make sense to me because now the plate number covers the logo), and eliminate the "www." portion of the website address.  The plate number format continued where the grey design left off.

2008 "GEORGIA.gov" base, removed county stickerwell:  At some point in time, (I'm guessing 2008 because "09" are the earliest stickers I've seen, but I don't have enough plates to confirm this), the state removed the stickerwell that the county sticker is placed in.  The county sticker is still placed at the bottom, but the bottom of the plate is now completely flat.
