Border city:  This type was used on for-hire taxi cabs in Arkansas cities bordering with other states, such as Fort Smith (with Oklahoma) and Texarkana (with Texas) so that the vehicles could cross state jurisdictions.  The plates are similar to passenger plates, with the exception of the caption at the bottom of the plate, and use the same "AAA 000" plate number format.  For further information, click on: http://www.dfa.arkansas.gov/offices/motorVehicle/Pages/specialityPlateDetails.aspx?show=11.

1989 red stripe base:  This "AAA 000" format base was introduced in 1989 ("90" sticker).  Note from ALPCA archives: Arkansas uses a rolling replate system where each year plates which are 8 years old must be replaced so that by 1997, theoretically, all of these base plates should be off the road, although as of 2002 some are still valid.  A sticker with "BORDER CITY" takes the plate of "The Natural State" found on passenger plates.

1996 all white base:  This "000 AAA" format base was introduced in 1996 ("97" sticker).  Theoretically, this base should be off the roads as of 2005, according to Arkansas' rolling replate system, although as of 2007 it remains the current base plate.  A screened "BORDER CITY" takes the plate of "The Natural State" found on passenger plates.
